Which flexible packaging solutions does Bosger manufacture?

Bosger offers a portfolio of flexible packaging materials developed for different products and industries. The range includes Smart Paper for dairy and fat-based products, Smart Paper+ for extending cottage cheese shelf life, SP Twist for confectionery packaging, SP HoReCa for fast-food and deli applications, and SF Hygienic films for hygiene and medical products.

All SP grades combine a paper-like look with reliable grease and moisture resistance, while each is tailored to a specific application through differences in barrier performance, thickness and machine behaviour: SP for butter, margarine and yeast, SP+ for cottage cheese, SP Twist for confectionery, and SP HoReCa for takeaway food, as well as specialised grades for hygiene and other applications.

Smart Paper is paper-like mineral-PE monofilm, developed as a modern alternative to conventional laminated paper and other multilayer packaging materials. It combines a soft, natural appearance with the technical performance of flexible film, including grease and moisture resistance, good foldability and high-quality printability. Its mineral-filled structure also helps reduce the amount of plastic used while maintaining the strength and functionality required for food packaging.

SP stands for Smart Paper — a name that reflects the material’s paper-like appearance and feel combined with the functionality of an advanced flexible film.

Despite its name and paper-like appearance, Smart Paper is not paper. It is a mineral-filled PE monofilm designed to combine the soft, natural look and feel of paper with the moisture resistance, grease resistance and processing performance of flexible film.

Smart Paper is an HDPE-based monomaterial film containing natural mineral filler. Depending on the final material grade and application, natural minerals can account for up to 50% of its composition, reducing the amount of plastic required while preserving the strength, flexibility and protective performance expected from modern packaging.

SP mineral film does not contain paper pulp, cellulose or wood fibres. Its paper-like appearance and texture are created through Bosger’s mineral-filled film technology, allowing it to achieve a natural look and feel without using paper-based raw materials.

SP mineral film is suitable for a wide range of food and non-food applications where grease resistance, moisture protection, a paper-like appearance and reliable processing performance are required. Depending on the selected grade, our films can be used for butter, margarine, lard, cottage cheese, candies, fast food, deli and butcher products, as well as floral and hygiene applications.

SP mineral film is a complete, ready-to-use packaging solution, supplied primarily in rolls for wrapping applications. It is not designed as a component of a laminate and does not require additional converting before use. From material production to printing and cutting, the solution is prepared for direct application on suitable wrapping equipment, helping simplify the packaging process.

SP mineral film is a modern paper-like packaging solution designed to replace several categories of food wrapping materials — from laminated packaging, laminated foil and conventional PE-based films to glassine, steak paper, butcher paper, deli paper, freezer paper, wax paper and interleaving paper. It delivers improved functional performance while offering a more sustainable and resource-efficient solution.

Compared with laminated packaging materials, SP mineral film provides the required durability and barrier performance in a thinner, single-layer structure. By eliminating layers, it helps reduce the total amount of packaging material used while offering a more resource-efficient, cost-effective and streamlined wrapping solution.

SP mineral film offers the flexibility and machinability expected from conventional PE packaging while using natural mineral content to reduce the share of petroleum-based polymer in its structure. Its soft, matte surface also creates a distinctive paper-like look and feel, giving the final packaging a more premium and recognisable appearance.

Better grease and moisture resistance, a cleaner and more premium appearance, and the same soft, natural paper-like texture — all in a material designed to perform more reliably than conventional wrapping paper.

SP mineral film has a soft, matte and naturally paper-like finish. The material is not transparent: standard grades are opaque, while thinner versions are more semi-opaque. For floral packaging, Bosger offers a broader choice of visual finishes, including matte, powder and tissue film. More details are available in the Floral Packaging section.
